‘Oh dear,’ said Mrs Moore, after he’d gone. ‘I believe I’ve only agreed to this because I feel so sorry for him.’

‘It’s a bad idea,’ said Barty. ‘You should just do some shopping instead and then travel to whichever place tickles your fancy next. Why should you help the prince and his strange little friend?’

Mrs Moore nodded. ‘We don’t have to do this, Lottie. In fact, I don’t even know where you’d begin.’

‘It won’t be a simple task,’ said Lottie. ‘But I would like to try.’

‘What will you do first?’

‘I met a gardener at the palace called Josef when Rosie ran off yesterday evening. I think he’s a good person to start with.’
